With the Hamble Classics starting yesterday, featuring the XOD fleet, it seems a good moment to search the video archive at YachtsandYachting.com to check out the oldest X-One-Design videos we can find from the era when all footage was analogue (roughly, before the year 2000).

It seems that all we have is from the sixties! Plus, it is all from Cowes Week. Did nobody elsewhere, at any other time, have reason to point a cine camera at XOD racing?

Cowes Week 1960 includes 12m, Dragon, Redwing, and Flying Fifteen classes as well as the XODs we are hunting for.

Cowes Week 1961 including footage on board 12 Metre 'Sceptre' and of the royal Dragon, but there is a little XOD action too.

Cowes Week 1962 has 12 Metres too, but keep watching...

Cowes Week 1967 has a focus on youth, but there is good footage of the XOD class.

Cowes Week 1968 has been edited by a class fan to keep the focus on the XODs, after the initial scene-setting.

What of the other decades?

Do you know the location of any other XOD videos either side of the 60s? We would love to share these with other sailors. You can submit video links to us for immediate review.

Keep watching with:

It's life Jim, but not as we know it Four Itchenor XOD boats boldly beamed themselves over to Parkstone where they encountered a far flung galaxy of XOD sailors. Some things were exactly the same, but others oddly different. Posted on 4 Sep
Glorious Race Weeks
Bumper participation is an indicator for the health of sailing It would be so easy to write about the Olympics and America's Cup this week in my newsletter but, in all honesty, we're writing and talking enough about those on Sail-World.com and YachtsandYachting.com already. Instead let's focus on Race Weeks. Posted on 3 Sep
Bournemouth Digital Poole Week 2024 overall
Studies in concentration A lot happened on the final day of Poole Week 2024. The wind was in one of its light and fickle moods, the tide was ebbing for the first starts, and the harbour was busy with traffic that had been mercifully light earlier in the week. Posted on 31 Aug

The wind returns It might be in the realms of fantasy to imagine that what one writes in the report of one day's racing in a regatta could conceivably have a bearing on what the weather gods dish up the next day. Posted on 30 Aug

Fickle winds and fluctuating fortunes Wednesday was to have been a day of round-the-harbour courses for most of the fleets racing in Poole Week. The Dolphins and Cornish Shrimpers tend to sail round-the-harbour courses anyway - none of this triangle/sausage business for them. Posted on 29 Aug
Bournemouth Digital Poole Week 2024 Day 3
Blow the wind Southerly (sometimes with a bit of East in it too) Poole Harbour was very much a harbour of two halves on the Tuesday of Poole Week. In the top triangle, sailing area for the Flying Fifteens and ILCAs (Lasers in old money), the wind started in the south and pretty well stayed there. Posted on 28 Aug
