With the first official day of racing on the books, the race is ON for the US to qualify as a country in the three remaining classes needed to round out a full 10-class Olympic Team: Men's iQFOiL, Men's Formula Kite, and ILCA 7. Men's iQFOiL, Men's Formula Kite, and ILCA 7. Athletes began the day postponed due to light winds but were able to get out on the Mediterranean early in the afternoon in a building westerly. The breeze was between 6-10 knots.

Men's iQFOiL athlete Noah Lyons thrived in the light air conditions, winning all three of the day's slalom races. "I'm feeling good after today," said Lyons. "It's a marathon, not a sprint so I'm not getting ahead of myself." If Lyons finishes as one of the top five nations at the end of the regatta, he will complete the second part of his selection process by qualifying the USA and officially secure his spot at the Paris Olympics.

In the Last Chance Regatta Men's Formula Kite fleet, Markus Edegran is currently in 5th overall and the fourth country in the standings. Edegran finished the day strong with a second-place finish in Race 5. Similar to Lyons, he must finish as one of the top five countries in order to officially secure his place at Paris 2024.

Paris 2024 nominated athlete Ford McCann is currently the top American in 10th place, followed by teammates Leo Boucher in 19th and Marshall McCann in 47th. To secure the US ILCA 7 spot at the Olympic Games, any American must finish as a top three country at the end of the week. After Day 1, the US currently stands as the ninth nation overall.

All USA athletes will be on the water tomorrow with the start of the Qualified Nations regatta for most classes, and the fight will continue for those in the Last Chance Regatta.
