IFDS Blind Sailing Worlds at Seabornia Yacht Club, Japan Overall

by Lucy Hodges 3 Jun 2013 23:53 PDT 25 May - 1 June 2013

The final two races of the regatta were held in bright sunshine and an initial 10-12 knots northerly which slowly decreased in strength but remained long enough to conclude the regatta and enable GBR to complete the job.

Watched by her Imperial Highness Princess Hisako Takmado, who later attended prize giving, Sharon Grennan duly obtained the result she needed with a second in the first race of the day to secure the B1 class Gold in her first Blind Sailing Fleet Racing Worlds.

Lucy Hodges, having already secured Gold, posted a second and a first to complete a net score of 14 points from 13 counting races for the regatta in the B2 class.

Liam Cattermole posted a pair of second places to round off an impressive debute regatta with a Silver in the B3 class.

With the Squadron Cup team trophy already safely in Team GBR's hands before the day, the trophy was ultimately won by a 29.2 point difference from New Zealand with Japan in third.

In a total of 45 races that were sailed (15 in each fleet), GBR gained 22 first places.

Lucy Hodges, Commodore of Blind Sailing, thanked all of the sponcers and supporters of Blind Sailing who have helped the team with this success, especially Musto who made the team look like a team on and off the water.

Team GBR are now back in the UK focusing on training for the next Worlds in 2015.
