Croatia's sailing world comes of age

by Nancy Knudsen on 11 Jun 2014
Sailing near Korcula in Croatia SW
Sailing in Croatia was first almost off-limits, then, when it first emerged as a sailing destination, very expensive, but as it matured it has become competitive and one of the favourite haunts of roving cruising sailors from all over the world. Now it has come of age, with its Biograd Boat Show accepted as the 34th member of the International Federation of Boat Show Operators (IFBSO).

At their 50th congress in Istanbul, the IFBSO unanimously accepted the Biograd Boat Show as their new member. The presentation by the Biogread delegation exceeded all of the standards set by the IFBSO, and general praise was given for the ability of the organisers Ilirija d.d. of Biograd to organize a show that has had 15 straight years of growth, and has become the largest in-water boat show in Central Europe.

They were also inpressed with innovative items such as the 360 degree virtual tour of the show www.bbs.com.hr The existing member shows are mostly organized in large cities such as London, Dusseldorf, Miami, Sydney, Shanghai, etc. while the Biograd show takes place in a town of only 5000 inhabitants, which makes this achievement all the more impressive.

IFBSO was started in 1964 to create a high standard of excellence for its members, and to provide a forum for mutual cooperation and advancement.

Along with the IFBSO, the ICOMIA Congress (International Council of Marine Industry Associations) also took place, allowing for all delegates to network and exchange information.

The Biograd Boat Show is organized by Ilirija d.d. of Biograd www.bbs.com.hr www.ilirijabiograd.com
