A competitive fleet of 57 youth sailors are preparing for US Sailing's 2011 U.S. Junior Women’s Singlehanded Championship (USJWSC), hosted by Richmond Yacht Club in Point Richmond, Calif.

The first of three days of racing in Laser Radials on San Francisco Bay starts on Tuesday, June 28 and concludes on Thursday, June 30.

Kaitlyn Baab (Saratoga, Calif.) and Kelly McGlynn (Flourtown, Pa.), two returning competitors from last year’s top five, will take another shot at winning the Nancy Leiter Clagett Memorial Trophy. Baab, who will be competing in the Laser Radial division at the 2011 Youth Sailing Championship later this summer in Newport, R.I., finished fourth out of 46 in 2010.

McGlynn has two top ten finishes at this championship. She finished fifth last year and sixth in 2009.

Sarah Stubbs (Rye, N.Y.) was second in the women’s division at US Sailing’s 2010 U.S. Singlehanded Championship. She was also the winner at the 2011 New England High School Singlehanded Championship for the Healy Trophy. Another notable returning competitor from last year is Kaylee Schwitzer (Annapolis, Md.) who was tenth last year.

Two days of clinics for the competing sailors led by US Sailing’s National Junior Coach Frank Ustach and a team of distinguished junior and college sailing coaches will precede competition.
