Balboa Yacht Club’s 2012 Corona del Mar to Cabo San Lucas (CDM to CABO) International Yacht Race is accepting entries. The race is scheduled to take place in early spring 2012 and the first boats will start on Friday, March 30, 2012, with the second start on Saturday, March 31, 2012.

The 2012 CDM to CABO Race is an invitational race with a variety of pre and post-race activities. Cabo San Lucas is a superb finishing destination which offers fun for all participants. The race will start off Newport Beach, Calif. and the course will run approximately 800 nautical miles (nm) to finish in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

Approximately 35 yachts are expected to enter this year’s race. Balboa Yacht Club hosts the race on even years.

The winner of the 2010 race was Katana, owned by Dr. Laura Schlessinger. The 2008 overall winner Sabrina, owned by Chris Calkins, will be competing again in the 2012 race. Several world class yachts are already entered in a quest to be the 2012 winner. A partial list of boats entered includes –

Host hotel for the 2012 CDM to Cabo Race will be the race sponsor Wyndham Cabo San Lucas Resort, Boulevard Marina. Formerly Tesoro Los Cabos, the hotel features all rooms upgraded to Wyndham standards.

Also sponsoring the race is uAttend, Carlsbad, Calif., a provider of employee time and attendance solutions, including proximity reading devices, Web-based time clocks and biometric fingerprint time clocks.

'This is going to be one of the finest races that we’ve hosted,' said Romeo Villarreal, 2012 Cabo Race Chairman. 'And for those of you fretting about getting recertified with your Safety at Sea requirements, we have some great news.'

According to Villarreal, there is going to be a Safety at Sea course held in Newport Beach on Saturday, January 28, 2012. The entry fee is US$1,200. A US$300 early entry discount applies to paid entries received prior to Dec. 31, 2011. Entry deadline is Jan. 31, 2012. Refunds are available to Invited Competitors who withdraw prior to the Jan. 31, 2012 entry deadline.
