20 teams from 10 countries for 33rd America's Cup

by Richard Gladwell, Sail-World on 13 Dec 2008

The competitor list for the 33rd America's Cup is expected to contain 20 teams representing 10 countries. Half of those teams are new, and have not previously sailed at an America's Cup.

Of the ten that have previous America's Cup experience, six or seven are currently active in America's Cup type activity while the legal hiatus has prevented proper organisation being undertaken.

All teams below were permitted to attend the meeting in Geneva, regardless of whether they had entered or not. BMW Oracle Racing were not present, and look to be excluded from the 33rd America's Cup if Alinghi prevail in the Court of Appeal in New York.

Mascalzone Latino did not attend again, due to their refusal to sign a non-disclosure document.

Sail-World understands that the new and yet to be entered teams in the 33rd America's Cup being organised by Societe Nautique de Geneve are:

1. Alinghi (SUI)

2. Desafio Espansol (ESP)
