Dart 18 Worlds days 4 and 5

by Dart 18 Worlds on 28 Jul 2011
Delphis Dart 18 Worlds 2011 day 5 SW
The Delphis Dart 18 Worlds experienced a wealth of rain and a lack of winds on day five. Around 11 o’clock the wind seemed to improve slightly so the first race of the day was back on. While the rain may have gone, the wind was shifty and lacking which caused a general recall and because of the low winds and strong current, they weren’t actually able to start.

After waiting an hour, the sailors were sent back to the shore. At half past one the current had eased and the wind was beginning to increase allowing race five to finally begin. The first start was a good one off the line. David and Louise Roberts from England made the most of it and were ahead at the first mark, immediately followed by Michiel Fehr and Raphael Jakob from Switzerland.

In the downwind course, David Lloyd and Joanna Jones-Pierce took the lead but were overtaken again in the next one by team Roberts who kept the first place till the finish, followed by Fehr-Jakob and Alan and Fiona Kernick from Great-Britain in third place. With this third place spot, the Kernicks take the lead from Dodé and Fred Moreau from France, who finished twentieth today.

Leaderboard after five races:

1. Alan Kernick – Fiona Kernick (GBR), 9 pts.
2. Emmanuel Dodé – Fred Moreau (FRA), 11 pts.
3. Thierry Wibeaux – Christine Wibeaux (FRA), 13 pts.
4. Dan Norman – Melanie Rogers (GBR), 16 pts.
5. Dave Roberts – Loiuse Roberts (GBR), 18 pts.

Delphis Dart 18 Worlds Day 4:

Today saw medium winds with a lumpy sea at the Delphis Dart 18 World Championships at Knokke Belgium. The first race got away on the first attempt as the tide was holding the fleet back from the line. Emmanuel Dode and Fred Moreau (FRA) had a good start and led from start to finish. Thierry and Christine Wibaux (FRA) where hard on their heels with Herve le Maux and Tory Hackman (FRA/GBR) taking third.

Race two of the day got away with a bit more wind. Most of the fleet tacked out to sea as soon as possible to try and benefit from the tide. The team of Dode and Moreau rounded the windward mark first but were soon overtaken by Alan and Fiona Kernick(GBR) who led till the end of the race. Team Le Maux and Hackman finish second with Dode and Moreau third.
