This weekend Southend will come alive with an array of South Australian and Victorian sailing boats contesting for the Rivoli Bay Sailing Club’s annual Western Region Regatta and the SA vs. Vic Catamaran Challenge.
With 15 boats expected on the start line, the two day regatta will attract racing enthusiasts from a broad base of clubs across two states and a mix of experienced State and National sailors plus newcomers to the sport of ocean racing. There will be some fierce competition on and off the water with National Taipan winner Luke Donavon and State Cobra champion Laurie Bradford contending for the State trophy.
To provide excellent competition there are four categories of boat divisions including Catamarans, Off-the-beach Monos and Trailables, Keelboats and Juniors.
The appeal of Rivoli Bay is its location and its semi-protected waters. The races will be not too long yet still challenging and loads of fun. The SA vs. Vic Catamaran Challenge is where both states contest for individual prizes as well as for the state trophy.
Harken, a leading manufacturer and marketer of quality sailboat hardware and accessories is coming on board as the major sponsor with prizes to all winners. Other sponsors include Maui Jim and Parmalat. 'Sponsors such as Harken, Maui Jim and Parmalat will heighten the success of this year’s regatta', Commodore, Evan Steele, said.
As well as the sailing Rivoli Bay Sailing Club will provide catered meals and bar facilities for Friday night, Saturday and Sunday. This regatta has all the ingredients for a memorable sailing weekend.
The regatta continues to create a high level of fun on and off-the water so for all interested past competitors and debutantes contact Commodore, Evan on 0428 712 721.
