David Mann 2016 Queensland Impulse State Champion - Queensland Impulse State Championships Marina Hobbs
The 12th Queensland Impulse State Championships were conducted at Lake Cootharaba Sailing Club on the weekend of the third and fourth of December 2016. The championship was held in conjunction with Lake Cootharaba Sailing Club’s mono masters regatta.

Many new boats and faces appeared at the championship ensuring a record size fleet of 26 boats, for a Queensland Championship, contested the regatta. Competitors traveled from as far as Central Queensland and the central coast of NSW to contest the regatta which was held over 6 races in mostly moderate to fresh sea breezes.

David Mann from Port Curtis Sailing Club, sailed a consistent series to win his first Impulse State Championship in his newly launched “Gold Digger”.

In second place, also sailing consistently, was Peter Watson from Teralba Sailing Club, Lake Macquarie NSW, sailing “Hakuna Matata”. In third place, after a break from sailing impulses for a couple of seasons, was Andrew Turnbull, from Oxley Sailing Club, on the Brisbane River, sailing “Pteropus”.

A fleet of around 50 boats will contest the 33rd Australian Impulse Championships to be held at the Teralba Amateur Sailing Club, Lake Macquarie, over the Christmas/New Year period.

The Impulse continues to show strong growth in numbers, so come and join the fun and get involved.
