Morticia Crossing the line - 50th Brisbane to Gladstone Multihull Yacht Race Chris Dewar
In the 2014 Brisbane to Gladstone Multihull Yacht race Morticia has crossed the line in second. Morticia won the start but was quickly passed by BOQ Team Australia.
Both boats accelerated away from the rest of the fleet and Morticia maintained second place for the entire race. They were challenged by Bullet Proof, Chillpill, Fantasia and Cut Snake in the early hours of Saturday morning when the lead was reduced to about 2nm. While the rest of the fleet struggled with the tide and light winds trying to round the Breaksea Spit mark, Morticia extended its lead and rounded the mark at 6pm Saturday, four hours ahead of the next yacht Bullet Proof.
As they headed for Lady Elliot Island Fantasia passed Bullet Proof but Morticia maintained a three and a half hour lead. Fantasia and Bullet Proof are expected in around 8pm Sunday.
