The Yacht Club Costa Smeralda in Virgin Gorda was delighted to welcome award-winning sailor Andrea Mura at the YCCS Marina in the North Sound this weekend.

Andrea arrived directly from Guadeloupe where he achieved a second place finish in his class, and came first among the monohull boats, in the Route du Rhum transatlantic race on board his Open 50 'Vento di Sardegna'

Hailing from the island of Sardinia, where the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda has its Mediterranean base, Andrea is a renowned yachtsman who has won numerous titles in single and double-handed oceanic sailing including the Twostar, Ostar and the Rhoute du Rhum in 2010. He also broke the record set by Dame Ellen MacArthur for the fastest Atlantic crossing under sail.

On his arrival at YCCS Andrea was given a warm welcome by the youngsters of the British Virgin Islands Sailing Team before enjoying a reception at the YCCS Clubhouse. The 'Vento di Sardegna' racing yacht will be moored at the YCCS Marina in Virgin Gorda for the entire winter season.
