Yassine Darkaoui almost half way through Andaman Laser Challenge

by Adelaide, and Guy Nowell, Sail-World Asia on 1 Jun 2014
Andaman Laser Challenge. Good scenery to make up for all the hard work. Yassine Darkaoui
Over night 29/30 May, Yassine Darkaoui added another 45km to his Andaman Laser Challenge, to make a total of 248km (134nm). In order to try to maximize distance and minimize time, Darkaoui is picking the legs between his three principal waypoints (Phuket, Koh Racha, Koh Phi Phi) to suit the available breeze.

It’s not easy being stuck on a small dinghy for a long time – never mind the peanut store getting low, Yassine is reporting pain in one of his knees, an exceptionally sore rear end including salt irritation, bleeding and some skin scraped off. He can’t sleep during the day time because the sun is just too hot and too bright, and he only managed 15 mins kip overnight. Not to mention the fact that his sailing area is littered (plastered?) with fishing boats.

More when we have it…
